Brad Fuhr

Remember the hope we had just one year ago going into the election? Kamala Harris was to be our savior from the orange alternative. We were going into Palm Springs Pride weekend with guarded confidence. A year on, we start November with battle scars and trepidation about the future.

I just pulled out my favorite Pride shirt which states, “Pride is a MARCH, not a parade.” It reminds us that while Sunday’s Palm Springs Pride “Parade” is full of color, celebration and light-heartedness, the battle continues.

The work that is the fight for our very existence as LGBTQ+ people in this society is under threat from all corners. The hope we had one year ago has certainly been erased. So have D.E.I. initiatives, trans rights, immigration rights, government benefits, and more.

Our own Pride organization suffered a significant loss in sponsorship dollars. Both KGAY & Gay Desert Guide have seen fewer advertisers step up to support us. And our local businesses have taken a hit — all ‘unforced errors’ to use a Dodger-World-Series-winning analogy…

This weekend, we put on our game face and come together as all letters of L-G-B-T-Q, all stripes of our rainbow flag. Our civic and non-profit leaders continue to work tirelessly to fight the wrongs, so let’s show our support as they march Sunday.

P.S. Please stop by and see the KGay Desert Guide activations starting Friday on Arenas.
