“Time marches on”. “Time loves a hero”. “Time flies over us, but leaves its shadow behind”. As another summer draws to a close, we inevitably hearken back to our youth when time seemed to move much more slowly. Time is now the enemy.
As the years slingshot by, suddenly it’s a milestone year for something that we swear just happened yesterday. Case in point: Del Shores and Emerson Collins are touring with Sordid Lives for its 25th anniversary, raising money for the Del Shores Foundation.
The film is back at the Palm Springs Cultural Center, which was the Camelot Theatres, where the original screened for 96 weeks and truly launched it as a cultural phenomenon! You can see it again with a Q & A on Pride weekend.
Going back even further to 1994, we pay tribute to Terence Stamp, co-star of “The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. Stamp passed Sunday at age 87, and co-star Guy Pearce paid tribute on social media: “Fairwell dear Tel,” Pearce wrote. “You were a true inspiration, both in & out of heels. We’ll always have Kings Canyon, Kings road & F’ing ABBA. Wishing you well on your way ‘Ralph’! xxxx.” This year marks 31 years since that film was released.
The Plaza Theatre is about to throw a bash nearly 90 years after it first opened! This year is turning into quite the lineup of entertainment milestones, and with every new announcement, we’ll be scratching our heads and asking how time flies so fast. Just like Dr. Seuss put it, “How did it get so late so soon?”
