2021 Palm Springs International Film Festival Rescheduled due to Coronavirus

The Palm Springs International Film Society is rescheduling its 32nd Palm Springs International Film Festival and Film Awards Gala due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The festival is now slated to kick off Feb. 25, 2021 with the Film Awards Gala at the Palm Springs Convention Center. It’s typically held in January.

This year’s red carpet gala, attended by 2,500 guests, honored actors, actresses and directors such as Jennifer Lopez, Joaquin Phoenix, Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.

The screening portion of the festival, which annually draws a lineup of new and celebrated international features and documentaries, is slated to open Feb. 26 with an opening night presentation and full days of screenings running through March 8.

Coronavirus has impacted the film awards season, as the Academy Awards are scheduled for April 25. The Cannes Film Festival, which takes place in May at the beginning of the awards season, was canceled this year and rescheduled for May 11-22, 2021.
