Drag Isn’t Dangerous. True is that! The well-named benefit live telethon will hit home the point that this anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment is held by a minority of people. But those loud voices have had a big impact across blue states with anti-drag, anti-trans and anti-LGBTQ+ laws hitting the books.

The Greater Palm Springs Rodeo Corporation presents the 2023 Palm Springs Hot Rodeo this Thursday through Sunday, May 4–7. The weekend kicks off Thursday night with a Hot Rodeo Dance Contest at 7 pm at Barracks Bar with ribbons for each category and a Dance Champion Buckle presented to the overall winner. On Friday, it’s a Pool Party & Games from 1–5 pm and Rodeo contestant registration from 5–8 pm at the host hotel, the Days Inn by Wyndham Palm Springs. Friday night happy hours and mixers will be at various bars in Palm Springs and Cathedral City, with the official Hot Rodeo Welcome Party from 8 pm–midnight at Tool Shed. The Hot Rodeo events take place Saturday and Sunday at A.C. Dysart Equestrian Center in Banning, and the fun continues Saturday night back with Dancing Under the Stars from 7–11 pm at Oscar’s Downtown Palm Springs. You and your best friend/s (the human kind as well) are invited to Boozehounds on Friday, May 5 for their Cinco de Mayo Parking Lot Party from 2–7 pm. The Party will be hosted by your favorite drag queen, Sabryna Williams, with live music, dancing, tacos, games, (drag) performances and of course, TEQUILA. Executive Chef Aric Lanna will head up the Pop Up Taco Station while DJ Chris DeJesus provides the beats. Meet canine heroes from Guide Dogs of the Desert, and Animal Samaritans will have adoptable pets on site as well as ACT dogs (Animal Companion Therapy). Learn canine tips and observe Sandy Miller as she demonstrates her dog training skills. Fine Art Photographer Kathy Rappaport of Flash Frozen Photography will set up a studio and donate 100% of the proceeds from your $25 donation, and you will receive a 5×7 print and the opportunity to order some special art of your loved furbaby. The Palm Springs Plaza Theatre Foundation is holding free Open House events at the theatre to display plans and renderings of the renovations to the historic building. The informal Open House events will take place every Tuesday from 7–8 pm through June 6, where Foundation board members and other volunteers will greet attendees and answer questions about the project. The purpose of these free weekly events is to provide attendees with an opportunity to see firsthand the restoration plans for the iconic building as it enters its Next Act.
