Will there be a local “trifecta” of winners this week? Sunday gave us two pieces of good news: Abi Carter won American Idol in a nail-biting show that featured her hometown of Indio in the national spotlight. Then, word that the Coachella Valley Firebirds swept the Ontario Reign to advance to the Western Conference finals made it a big night for us.
The third? Our own Mr. Palm Springs Leather, Oscar Uvillus, of course! He’ll be competing in the International Mr. Leather competition in Chicago this Memorial Day weekend.
Yes, the first two winners are headline-grabbing to a broad audience. But having the possibility of a local representing our community at IML is also a big deal. Oscar is the husband of my longtime friend and co-worker, Chris Shebel, KGAY’s program director and afternoon drive host. I’ll be in Chicago this weekend to cheer them on and hopefully be able to report that trifecta next week.
