Brad Fuhr

There’s a romanticism about living abroad. And then there’s the practical side: Should things get really bad in the USA – say after the election – one may choose to move in order to maintain their LGBTQ + freedoms. Dramatic? Possibly. But something I’m talking about with my friends during summer vacation in Europe.

While in Lisbon, I just missed connecting with two Palm Springs friends who have “made the switch”. Dan McBride has authored a book “So You Want to Move to Portugal “ on Amazon. He and his husband, Timm McBride, have been here for over a year. You may recognize Timm’s name from his work in local theatre. (And he just got cast in a new international production of “Sister Act,” which is scheduled to open in South Korea later this year!) I’ve known Timm since we were in the same Michigan CMU dorm together in the late 70s. And that proves just how small the world really is. No matter where you live or love. Who knows? Maybe we’ll end up as ‘neighbors’ again someday…

Broadway to the BIG SCREEN – Mamma Mia!

Broadway-to-the-BIG-SCREEN-Mamma-Mia

Every Saturday this summer, the Palm Springs Cultural Center presents the great musicals that made it from Broadway to the BIG SCREEN (and sometimes back again). On Saturday, August 12 at 4 pm, the featured film is Mamma Mia!, filled with the music of ABBA. The tale revolves around Donna (Meryl Streep), an independent hotelier in the Greek islands, who is busy planning her daughter’s wedding with the help of two old friends. Meanwhile Sophie, the spirited bride, has a plan of her own. She secretly invites three men from her mother’s past to the wedding, hoping one of them may turn out to be her real father. It’s a lighthearted and joyous tale, and it’s filled with ABBA music! Did we say that already? MeTV 103.1 fm is a proud media sponsor of the Broadway to the BIG SCREEN Film Series! Get tickets

Sing Along With Us – Hello Dolly!

Summer Sing With Us - Hello Dolly

The Palm Springs Cultural Center presents classic movie musicals in the Sing Along With Us Film Series all summer long, on the largest screen in the valley at the Historic Camelot Theatre. The Palm Springs Gay Men’s Chorus will lead the singing. On Sunday, August 13 at 3 pm, come sing along to Hello Dolly! In 1890s New York City, the bold and enchanting widow Dolly Levi (Barbra Streisand) is a socialite-turned-matchmaker. Her latest clients seeking assistance are the cantankerous “half-a-millionaire” Horace Vandergelder (Walter Matthau) and a young artist named Ambrose (Tommy Tune), who is in love with Horace’s niece, Ermengarde (Joyce Ames). Dolly’s scheming soon involves Horace’s employees as well as a New York hat maker, as she tries to cover up her own secret romantic designs.
