5was the number of the Democratic National Convention:

Five words:  “Kamala Harris for the People!”
Exonerated Five: The men who Donald Trump called to be executed for a crime they did not commit.
November 5 – Election Day.
500 + Anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced in state legislatures so far this year.
And Project 2025: The radical blueprint for the next administration.  As Kamala said, “We are not going back.”

The last night of the Democratic National Convention culminated with our vice president ascending to the official spot as presidential candidate for the 2024 election. She’s riding a wave of momentum even though nearly half of America is still mired in Trumpism.

We’re in for a wild ride between now and Election Day.  I talk with many of you who share the fear of outcome and have made contingency plans to leave our country if the worst comes to pass.

Imagine that – especially if you’re an ally reading this blog and not a member of the LGBTQ+ community.  We are literally afraid for our lives if Donald Trump is elected.

Gay Desert Guide and our KGAY radio station are meant to uplift, entertain and inform the world about all the great things happening here in the Coachella Valley.  However, for the next 70-some days, we have to zoom out of our bubble to bring attention to the future of our country.   We’ll be promoting fundraisers, voter registration, volunteer opportunities with our candidates, and talk about some of the issues facing the LGBTQ+ community. In fact, John Taylor and Shann Carr have put together a debate watch party at Hunters.

Please bear with us during this detour.  We ‘ll have plenty of airtime and screen time to again make our valley one of the happiest places on earth to visit – after the election.
