Talk about a confluence of events! On the weekend that the orange one is descending on our valley, Randy Rainbow is in town. And near the site of his rally, East Coachella Valley Pride is happening.

I’m sure the “Randy Rainbow for President” tour never anticipated being in the same place at the same time. So his perfectly timed appearances Friday and Saturday at the McCallum will likely go “off script” a little bit.

And yes, our LGBTQ+ community and many of our allies are taken aback at the rally, but we’re encouraged not to engage. Let them spend money and give a quick boost to the local economy, quipped Rep. Raul Ruiz at a counter rally on Wednesday.

It feels like an invasion into our little bubble that is the Coachella Valley. We have a false sense of security in living her, I think. So when this “in your face” attempt to rile up his base happens, we get a little traumatized.

For me, the worst part is thinking of a world in which a “Project 2025” administration is in charge. I know that some of us are thinking of exit strategies from our beloved United States, and that’s not hyperbole. Randy will provide plenty of that in his two shows to take our minds off the unthinkable.
