There are some big plans for the new Acrisure Arena which will play host to hockey, and so much more. Owners have already recognized the importance of the LGBTQIA+ community in the valley and created a rainbow logo for the new Coachella Valley Firebirds. (Read more below and check out the logo.)

You can see the progress of the arena driving along I-10 near Cook Street. It is set to open by this time next year! Lots of chatter about it (and the obscure company who got the naming rights!)

Everyone is hoping the Omicron is indeed starting to wane as many events on our calendar are still on a precarious perch of cancel/don’t cancel. White Party is now on sale, and Red Dress/Dress Red has been given the green light to proceed. IBC is full steam ahead, while the Dinah confirmed Fall dates at Margaritaville.

Acrisure Arena Named

Acrisure Arena Signage Concept

The new 11,500-seat arena currently under swift construction at Interstate 10 and Cook Street to become the future home of the Coachella Valley Firebirds (the Seattle Kraken’s American Hockey League (AHL) team), will be named Acrisure Arena under a 10-year exclusive named rights agreement. Based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Acrisure is a rapidly growing leader in the financial services technology industry. In addition to being a hockey venue, Acrisure Arena is expected to host big-name concerts, conventions, UFC, boxing, and WWE events.

Earlier in the week, the Coachella Valley Firebirds unveiled their new jerseys and logos. According to the release,

Embodying the spirit of both clubs throughout the design, the design of the bird uses a similar beveling technique as the Seattle Kraken’s “S” logo as another visual tie to the team’s parent NHL organization, which has further been carried out into the team’s wordmark. In embracing the team’s roots in the Coachella Valley, the type design embodies the mid-century modern design aesthetic for which the Valley has become world-famous.

Coachella Valley Firebirds LGBTQIA+ logo

For the secondary logo, the Firebirds have looked to its home for inspiration, featuring a palm tree against a field of mountains, showcasing the iconic landscape of the Coachella Valley. This is no ordinary palm tree, however, it has nine fronds, one for each city in the Valley, uniting us all together under one banner. Additionally, as part of its commitment to inclusivity, the primary and secondary Firebirds logos will be included in special color variants for friends, family, and neighbors in the LGBTQIA+ community.
