Porn! Porn! Porn!” And 30+ years on, the internet has certainly changed our world. Gay Desert Guide wouldn’t exist without it and KGAY wouldn’t have its worldwide listenership.

Elon Musk has now commandeered Twitter and many have fled the platform. The place for politics and porn has certainly grabbed headlines – and lost advertisers and users. I’m not boycotting Twitter, as it still provides benefits to the LGBTQ+ communities we serve. Twitter acts as a valuable connection between media, brands and people worldwide. So while I wouldn’t advertise on Twitter, I will continue to post there. For now…

30th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade

30th Annual Festival of Lights Parade

The City of Palm Springs presents the 30th Annual Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade on Saturday, December 3 from 5:45–7:45 pm. The parade, the city’s signature holiday event and a much loved tradition, features spectacular twinkling floats, magnificent marching bands, huge Macy’s-style holiday balloons – and Santa Claus of course! The parade route follows Palm Canyon Drive north, from Ramon Road to Tachevah Road. The parade will once again be broadcast live on NBC Palm Springs starting at 6 pm. More info

PS Tree Lighting

On Friday, December 2 at 5:15 pm, it’s time for the Official City of Palm Springs Holiday Tree Lighting in Frances Stevens Park, featuring Santa Claus and the Palm Springs City Council. Prior to the lighting of the City’s spectacular 22-foot tall Holiday Tree, Main Street Palm Springs and Mayor Lisa Middleton will host the annual Holiday Banner Student Awards beginning at 4 pm. The City of Indio presents the 30th Anniversary of the Indio International Tamale Festival from Thursday, December 1 through Sunday, December 4 at Miles Avenue Park. Join in for a weekend full of tamales, live music, and lots of fun, including the World’s Biggest Bounce House, carnival rides, luchadors, and micheladas. Performers include Banda Machos, La Santa Cecilia, Nortec: Bostich + Fussible, The Egyptian Lover, together PANGEA, a festive night market on both Thursday & Friday evenings featuring food, rides, and entertainment.
